On January 29, 1967, Truman Burbank is born live on television — the first person in history to be legally adopted by a corporation. Seahaven Island, a purpose-built set the size of a city, is already waiting for him. Thirty million viewers watch the birth; Truman watches nothing, knowing nothing, as Day 1 of the most-watched television program in history begins.

After sailing alone through a painted sky, Truman Burbank's boat strikes the wall of the dome — and he discovers that the horizon has always been a backdrop. Creator Christof speaks to him from the heavens, urging him to stay in the world built for him. Truman takes a bow, delivers his sign-off — 'In case I don't see ya: good afternoon, good evening, and good night' — and walks through the exit door into the real world.
