On February 11, Joel Barish visits Lacuna Inc. and requests that all memories of his ex-girlfriend Clementine Kruczynski be medically erased — mirroring what she has already done to him. The procedure takes two nights; the film unfolds inside Joel's mind as the memories are deleted in reverse chronological order and he realizes, too late, that he doesn't want to let her go.
