Les Misérables

In-fiction date: 6/5/1832

On June 5, 1832, the funeral procession of General Lamarque — beloved by the poor of Paris — becomes a flashpoint. Republican students and workers erect barricades across the streets of the Saint-Denis quarter. Enjolras leads the insurgents at the Café Musain barricade; Marius Pontmercy takes his place among the fighters. Jean Valjean, who has followed Marius here, learns that Javert is among the prisoners and releases him. The barricade will fall the next morning.
