On May 21, 2061, two computer technicians celebrating the completion of a vast solar energy network ask Multivac, half in jest, whether entropy can ever be reversed. The computer answers 'INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR MEANINGFUL ANSWER' — but the question, born from a five-dollar bet over highballs, will be posed to ever-greater computers across billions of years, until at last an answer becomes possible.
